We are delighted to announce our new Saddle Studio and Consultation Suite is now officially open! Paralympic Dressage World Champion, Lee Pearson, CBE, came to celebrate the day with us and treat our 200 visitors to an inspirational and comical presentation, packed with his unique life-story and top equestrian tips. Lee was also kind enough to bring along some of his Olympic gold medals and spend more than an hour having photos with his fans.

It was fantastic to see so many of you had come along to support our big day so thank you all for coming. I’d also like to congratulate those who were lucky enough to win prizes in our raffle and thank everyone who bought tickets – you helped to raise £326 for Cancer Research. Finally, a big thank you also goes to Prestige, GFS, St. David’s Equine Practice, Dodson and Horrell for their generous prize donations.

After months of preparation, our much-needed new Saddle Studio will enable you to browse our complete range of over 150 new saddles before the fitting. We can also advise, in the comfort of the Studio, what manufacturers and style would be best for your needs.

The new Consultation Suite is designed for year-round saddle fitting and is adjacent to the Studio for easy access. Of course, our new facilities are all in addition to our existing mobile saddle fitting service across Exeter, Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. Whether you’re looking for a new saddle or for us just to check the fit of your current saddle, we can give you and your horse the ultimate experience.

During his presentation, Lee said: “The new Nutwell Saddlery Saddle Studio and Consultation Suite gives riders across the South West five-star saddle fitting facilities. The Studio is packed with the finest leather saddles, the Consultation Suite is extremely inviting for horses and the Martin Collins surface indoor riding school gives riders the best opportunity to ensure their saddle fits perfectly. I have been so impressed by Nutwell Saddlery and was honoured to be there for the opening day.”

The Saddle Studio is open by appointment only so if you’d like to browse the saddles and our range of accessories please call 01392 877896 to arrange a convenient time.

New Facilites at Nutwell Saddlery

We are delighted to announce the new facilities at Nutwell Saddlery are now open. We are still based on Nutwell Estate and still very much a mobile service, but now boast a superb Saddle Studio and Consultation Suite.

It has always been our ultimate desire to provide a first class experience at Nutwell, so that should you wish to bring your horse to us, you can be treated to beautiful surroundings and five- star facilities. As many of you will know, these new facilities have been a long time coming but they have been well worth the wait and we are absolutely thrilled with the result.

The Saddle Studio will enable you to browse through our large range of saddles and accessories. Complete with a plastic horse, you can even sit on the saddles to help you decide what style and manufacturer you prefer. With a team of three saddle fitters, there will always be someone on hand for guidance and advice should you need it.

The Saddle Studio will lead directly to our purpose-built consultation and examination area. Here we have two purpose built loose boxes to allow your horse to relax and settle before the fitting begins. The fitting rooms have direct access to our beautiful indoor arena so in the dark and wet winter evenings, we can still fit your saddle in relaxed and comfortable surroundings.

Janet, Kate and I are qualified saddle fitters with over 30 years’ combined experience. We are passionate about our job and hope the new studio and fitting facilities reflect this. We want you to leave us having had a thoroughly enjoyed your experience and even picked up some knowledge of saddle fitting from our enthusiasm along the way.

We are very proud of the facilities we now offer and believe they are a unique asset to the South West. If you would like to make an appointment to visit the Saddle Studio, please call us on 01392 877896. On behalf of Janet, Kate and I, we look forward to seeing you very soon.

Nutwell Saddlery

Nutwell Saddlery becomes a partner of the National Equestrian Crime Database

NECD logo We are pleased to announce that we are now a partner with the National Equestrian Crime Database (NECD). The NECD is the most advanced equestrian crime prevention service in the world and brings a zero tolerance to equestrian crime, committed to the eradication of equestrian theft deterring criminals by ensuring stolen items are almost impossible to sell on.

Equestrian crime continues to be a major problem and a concern for horse owners throughout the UK. Whilst a number of both profit making and non-profit making organisations have been launched over the last 20 years, equestrian crime has not diminished and in fact continues to escalate. Extensive research and analysis of police information illustrate the main causes are lack of unique identifying marks on equestrian items and a central database accessible by all crime prevention organisations. In response to this, the NECD has developed a world class solution which addresses these requirements and goes many steps further in protecting the equestrian community.

So how does it work?

For a modest annual membership fee of £35.00, you are provided with a service which enables horse owners to register their entire equestrian estate, regardless of its value. The NECD uniquely recognises and uses all identifying alphanumeric marks (serial numbers, letters, postcodes, chassis numbers, horse passports, freezemarks and microchips) for every equestrian item registered and can also generate unique membership IDs for items which have no marks such as bridles and saddles.

For the first time, all 51 UK police forces can track and recover stolen NECD items nationwide. The NECD meets police requirements for the hand-over of recovered property by providing a printable receipt for all items registered. The NECD is also able to track complete item ownership history from its date of registration making it the first DVLA of equestrian estate.

The NECD has launched a number of world first free crime prevention services including ‘NECD Checkit’ and ‘Textit’ which enable equestrians and members of the public anywhere in the world to check item status using internet or SMS, providing further international visibility and traceability for stolen items.

"June 2010 - Horses Inside Out" Talk a Great Success!

Over 100 of people joined us last night for an enjoyable informative evening with Gillian Higgins. This captivating speaker held our attention for over 2 hours with her innovative way of talking about Equine Anatomy. I hope you have all gone home and are practicing her techniques for keeping your horse soft and supple!!

King Solomon was once again a true star and patiently allowed her to “poke and prod” demonstrating various therapy techniques all by the aid of a carrot! So a big thank you to Solly and Paula Lee who generously allowed him to be our model for the evening. I think you will all agree that the muscles, ligament and bones painted on him had a stunning effect. Also I had better not forget to thank the little pony Ricky!!

Thank you also for buying raffle tickets so generously, in total we raised £280.00 for Cancer Research, so again thank you very much.

A "Horses Inside Out" Demonstration

February 2010 - Kate Passes Her Exams

We are pleased to announce that Kate has passed her exams to become a Society of Master Saddlers Qualified Saddle Fitter.

Since joining us in 2007 Kate has worked extremely hard to gain the experience and knowledge required to pass these exams. The exams themselves are no mean feat. Following an introduction to saddle fitting course and a three year apprenticeship with a Master Saddler and Qualified Saddle Fitter only then can you apply for the Qualified Saddle fitter’s course.

The course is a tough week of theory and practical sessions led by some of the most respected Saddle fitters and manufacturers in the country. The culmination of this being a full day of written, oral and practical examinations. The high standard required to pass this exam is reflected in the low pass rate. This year only 3 people in the UK passed so well done Kate.
