December 2007 - Feature on Nutwell Saddlery in the Western Morning News

On Friday 14th December 2007 the Westcountry Horses section of the Western Morning News carried a feature on Nutwell Saddlery. Here's the full text of the article:

Saddle up well with Nutwell

THE principle under-pinning Nutwell Saddlery’s day to day work is that good saddle fit is essential to the welfare and performance of your horse.

The Nutwell Estate-based business near Exeter set up two years ago when they saw a demand for complete saddle fitting and remedial saddlery service in the South West.

“Whether you are working in the horse industry, or riding is your hobby, your horse will not live up to its maximum potential if a poorly fitting saddle is causing discomfort or pain.” Explains Kerry Davidson, a qualified veterinary nurse and part of the growing Nutwell team. With a mission statement to become a ‘centre of excellence for saddle fitting and provision of high quality saddles within the South West’, the first point of call was to appoint Master Saddle and qualified saddle fitter Janet Legg.

“We are realising our mission through the skills, expertise and experience provided by Janet who brings with her over a decade of knowledge in working in the equine and leather industry,” added Kerry. “This then translates into maximising saddle performance and the impact it has on horse and rider.”

Nutwell Saddlery is fast becoming recognised as an authority in remedial saddlery demonstrated by Janet’s record of effective diagnosis of problems caused by ill-fitting saddles and how this can be best rectified.

“We pride our service on visiting clients at there own yard or providing full consultation facilities at our base at Nutwell Estate. Here we can offer easy access and parking with both indoor and outdoor arena’s, essential for fitting on those dark cold winter evenings,” explains Kerry who is herself hoping to become a qualified Saddle fitter.

The saddlery business aims to cater for all riders in the equine world, with their client base already consisting of professional competitors, long distance riders, polo players and like the vast majority, those who just enjoy their horses ad ride compete for the pleasure and thrill it gives.

The newest team member is Kate Scott-Smith who comes from the human nursing sector to start her apprenticeship as a saddle fitter.

Kerry added: “Both Kate and I are benefiting from learning from such a qualified professional as Janet. It will be a real asset and will allow us to continue to be able to offer a service based around experience and knowledge that can only be gained with hands on training and gaining qualifications through the Society of Master Saddlers.”
